Word of Mouth Indie Games is an informal group of Los Angeles-based game developers, artists, and designers who like making games (and other stuff too!). We are an unofficial but impassioned group of friends, colleagues, and creatives making free things for people to watch and play.

Joey is a technical designer who found video games after a career on the editorial side of children’s books. With an interest in anything that makes good stories good, and compelling mechanics compelling, it seemed like a natural fit to, you know, start making video games. He loves bringing ideas that start from humble beginnings (like on scratch paper or a napkin) all the way to life via playable games that can be shared with friends, family, and whoever wants to give games a shot. Joey’s three favorite games are Halo 5: Guardians, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Spider-Man for PS4.

Lauren is a game designer/3D artist with a background in commercial photography. She fondly remembers playing the Sims for hours as a child (and then getting grounded for it). Her dream is to one day make an excellent horseback-riding game for all the girls who grew up with Barbie Riding Club as the only viable option. Lauren’s three favorite games are the Witcher 3, Pokémon (the whole franchise), and Skyrim.

Zach is a composer and sound designer who cares about games, game design, and solid implementation. He’s been playing games since he was developmentally capable of holding a controller and his uncle showed him what Zelda was. He spends a lot of his time with his wife feeding her Mario Party addiction and binging on just about any superhero show they can find. Zach’s three favorite games are Final Fantasy VI, Nier: Automata, and Witcher 3/Dark Souls 3 (he wanted to keep both).

Angel is a 3D animator and illustrator from South Gate, California. He loves games that challenge him and make him throw his controller. While it’s hard to pin him down, Angel’s life is ultimately games, collectibles, and animation. (If it’s animated you have his attention—here’s looking at you Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.) Angel’s three favorite games are Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, and God of War (slightly edging out Super Mario Galaxy 2).

Hannah is a 2D and 3D artist from Boston, Massachusetts. While she has always loved games, she realized she could make a career of it when she interned at the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab as a 3D artist. Since then, she’s found her people in the company of other game developers and has been hooked on making games, talking about games, and talking about making games ever since. She always says she won’t play any more RPGs, but then she gets sucked into really immersive, time-consuming games that involve riding horses all the way across the map. Hannah’s three favorite games are Red Dead Redemption, Portal 2, and Mass Effect 3 (controversial opinion, but she’s sticking to her guns).

David likes to create and design things. He’s really more of a designer than an artist, and for him it’s all about building those lasting memories and experiences with your fellow players. Whether it’s a gameplay experience about friendship, solo heroes, or taking on the world with a team, it’s really about the personal experience each person can take away from it. David’s three favorite games are the Thief series, World of Warcraft (vanilla), and either Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri or Sunset Overdrive (okay, that is way more than three).
